As per the last TAM data (WK 2, 2009) SAB, India’s first family comedy channel has garnered an impressive 51 GRPs. The channel has grown at a whopping rate of 70% in all day GRP and 120% growth in prime time in the last 3 months. This phenomenal growth can be attributed to SAB’s ‘differentiated programming strategy’.

Speaking on the sustained performance of the channel, Mr. Anooj Kapoor, Business Head, SAB said, “Our family comedy channel positioning was worked very well for us and the differentiated programming has hit a right chord with the viewers. We are proud to have sustained our performance with regular growth over the past months. At the same time, we are confident that we will further consolidate our position with the current hit shows and a slew of new shows which are slated to launch in the coming months.”

SAB has been gradually but steadily increased its hold in the general entertainment genre. A significant fact is that the channel decided to have women protagonists to lure the female audience from the GECs. Research states that in a single television household, the control of the TV lies in the hands of women. Keeping this factor in mind, SAB transformed the channel’s strategy from youth to comedy where they have all strong realistic female protagonists.

Apart from its robust programming, SAB’s Brand Campaign ‘Asli Mazaa SAB ka Saath Aata Hai’ too has had a good impact on the audiences. SAB has successfully managed to entice the entire family to watch television together with its new content and brand strategy.

India’s leading Hindi family comedy entertainment channel today celebrated ‘Makar Sankranti’ with a big bang at the Country Club in Andheri. Bringing together the entire cast of all shows on SAB, the colorful festival was celebrated with a lot of energy and excitement. The fun fulfilled musical journey of India’s only humour based musical reality show ‘Krazy Kiya Re’ on SAB, has been making big waves on the small screen. Now as the show comes towards the Grand Finale and will witness two finalists battling out for the grand prize of Rs.5,00,000/-

The very dynamic & multi-talented Shekhar Suman will be the celebrity judge on the mega finale episode. The show started with versatile singer-turned actor Sachin Pilgaonkar & beautiful actress Perizaad Zorabian as judges and 8 contestants coming from all across the country competing with each other. Now it’s down to the last two contenders Shifa Ansari and Ankita Bhatayaryaji competing for the ultimate prize of 5,00,000 INR. The action in the last week is as unpredictable as it gets.

The final contestants treat viewers to the outstanding performances, but the star of the evening undoubtedly is the guest judge Shekhar Suman. He himself sings a parody song in Bhojpuri to start off and then teases Perizaad saying, “Aajkaal bahut achha Hindi bol rahi hain aap” can watch Shekhar Suman in a flirty mood drooling over Perizaad.

Called ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah’, the show revolves around members of a single housing society who face common real life situations. But finding simple solutions and the underlying message of always keeping positive perspective to life, is its highlight. The show will air everyday starting 28^th July 2008, Monday to Thursday at 8:30pm only on SAB TV.

The show is based on a popular humor coloumn called ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ written by the eminent Gujrati writer Taarak Mehta for over 37 years in Chitralekha magazine. His coloumns have a social base with mass appeal that cover topical issues. The show is being produced by Mr.Asit Modi of Neela Telefilms who have made some popular comedy shows like ‘Hum Sab Ek Hain’, ‘Meri Biwi Hain Wonderful’, Yeh Duniya Hai Rangeen’. According to Mr. Asit Modi the show is an amalgamation of topical happening flavored with humor and seasoned with a different perspective of Taarak’s trademark.

The show predominantly revolves around Jethalaal an uneducated Gujrati businessman. He and his family live in Golkuldham Co-operative Society. Taarak Mehta is his neighbour. Jethalaal finds a friend and philosopher in Taarak Mehta and often goes to him for advice whenever he is in trouble. Jethalaal has a wife named Daya Ben and a mischievous son Tapu who is his constant cause of worry. The society members have often warned Jethalaal to reform Tapu or else be prepared to be ousted from the society. After loosing all hope Jethalaal calls his father Champaklal as a last resort, thinking that he might be of help to reforming the mischievous brat. But much to his surprise Champaklal joins hands with the brat and constantly makes life absolutely miserable for Jethalaal.
